LAP LAND EVOLUTION

-

Lapland Evo – PC talks to Stuart Pringle, MD.

When did you have the idea for LAP LAND?

‘A Christmas event has, for many years, been talked about but we have never found the right concept to go with. This year, what started as a discussion about a COVID-19SAFE light show has evolved and Lap Land was born.’

Who was responsible for designing the experience?

‘Silverstone worked with a creative partner on this project. We also worked with lighting partner VHE, who are our key light and laser partner with experience of delivering events for Formula 1 as well as stadium tours for international performers including Take That.’

How many lights were used?

‘1200 Lights, 60 miles of cabling and 48 lasers.’

How long did it take you to sell out?

‘Within four days the most popular pre-christmas slots were all sold out and three weeks later, by the time we opened for the first night on 10 December, all prechristmas dates were gone. We have made some further capacity available in recent days – both pre and post-christmas – and these are currently selling fast.’

How many cars are you expecting?

‘60,000 over the full run of nights.’

What was the toughest part of the prep process?

‘The short space of time we gave ourselves to pull this together. 120 people worked on the Lap Land team and put the show together in 20 days – a unique event to Silverstone, so very much an unknown.’

What is your favorite part of the experience?

‘We do not want to give too much away for those that have not visited yet but a special appearance by a very special man is a highlight for all. Another element that is making the event even more special is the engagement of those attending – many are pimping up their cars with festive paraphernalia and it just adds to the wonderful atmosphere.’
