Practical Classics (UK)

MARKET ANALYSIS

- with James Walshe

Pitched as a luxury grand tourer, very few were sold in the UK. Others went mad for it though, including the Japanese who went through a major classic Brit phase. The majority of the 2000 cars built ended up there. There are plenty of examples to choose from, with many now having returned from Japan, often with low mileages, and undecipherable service histories. Colour matters, by the way. More than 60 percent were Woodcote Green, so reds and blues fetch a small premium. Prices have been rising gently for years, so if you want an RV8, buy sooner rather than later. I know we often say that but honestly, this is a seriously unique classic unlike any other. The fact there’s an MG badge on the front will make it all the more desirable for enthusiasts and, crucially, those pesky classic vehicle collectors – whose investment activities will always lead to price rises.
