James likes the... WINTRY ONE

‘They never sold it in the UK so

I’d have to pop across to Europe for a 325ix Touring. Four-wheel drive combined with extra space, with that BMW build and handlng – I spent time in one while on a snowboarding trip in the Swiss Alps a few years ago and loved it. Everyone else there does too, hence crazy values nowadays.’

Matt G likes the... SIX-POT

‘Back in 2015, James Walshe and I took part in a charity rally around Europe. The route covered six countries over six days, and our vehicle of choice was a very early E30… an ’83 323i to be precise. The silky six-pot under the bonnet proved ideal for racking up the miles in both speed and comfort. Happy days!’

Matt T likes the... DROP-TOP

‘Does a modern classic fourseater convertible get any better? I don’t think so. Fun in the sun that all the family can enjoy, with the same build quality and reliability boasted by the saloon.

OK, rigidity may be slightly compromised, but who drives their family around on the ragged edge of tyresmoking grip anyway?’

Danny likes the... BASIC ONE

‘I had a 318i 15 years ago. It was an absolutely bulletproof gem. Not that fast, not that luxurious, but it was so well put together and drove as if it had been specifically built for me. I would have liked slightly taller gearing, but as a piece of beautifully crafted transport with fun built in, it was unbeatable.’

JJ likes the... FIRST ONE

‘To this day, this old six-pot BMW is the only car I’ve written off. I was 24 and was fiercely proud of my very first BMW, a 325is. Clueless to the perils of rear-wheel drive, I exited a mini roundabout still crossed up with a bit too much throttle… and you can guess the rest. I’ve not owned an E30 since, but

I still want one again.’
