Talk about a mist opportunity…

-

QI have a number of Morris Minors. The van has a windscreen that mists at the slightest provocation and is almost impossible to demist by wiping or blowing until the whole car interior is warm. The heater and blower are fine. It is always been like this. What can you suggest?

Andy Ibbotson, via email Matt says:

AGlass becomes coated with contaminants. Some positively attract condensation and form it into tiny beads which are especially hard to shift. Often when a screen starts to mist, the first thing you’ll notice is the ghostly imprint of a longremoved sticker. These contaminants can be stubborn and household glass cleaners won’t touch them. You’ll need a slightly-abrasive cleaner. We’d normally recommend a Cif-type household cream cleaner or a cream-type automotive ‘glass polish’. As your coating is particularly stubborn you could try traditional formula T-cut, whose ammonia content might be helpful. Try a siliconeremoving agent as used by automotive painters. Chemical action – if you can find the right one will help to remove anything that’s made its home on the surface of the glass.
