EXPLAINER

What is a Metalastik bush and how do they work?

-

What they look like

Here are two typical types of bush. The top-hat ones are pressed in until they stop, either at the ‘flange’ or the ribs provided. The plain ones are pressed flush with the suspension part, or up to a shoulder in it.

How they work

The outer shell of the bush is a tight, press-fit in the suspension arm. The inner sleeve is a looser fit, but is clamped fast when the retaining nut is tightened.

The outer shell moves with the arm and the inner sleeve is held fast on the fixed pivot shaft.

The rubber flexes to allow the arm to move up and down. How they fail The bush’s rubber deteriorates over time, altering performance and allowing movement.
