What’s going on in your classic world? It’s time to have your say.

Reading the article about the Volvo 262C (PC, March 2021) brought back a memory from 1981. I was a young Sergeant attending the Bandmasters Course at The Royal Marines School of Music in Deal, Kent. The course was well regarded, and it was common to have students from other nation’s military services attending and among my course mates were two officers from the Omani Army Music Service.

One morning, during our Music History session, there was a knock at the door and a chap in a Volvo coat popped his head in and asked for Mr Said, one of the two Omani students. Said stood up and was told: ‘Your car is outside’.

We all rushed to the window to see a shiny black 262C with vinyl roof and all black interior parked below. It transpired that Said was very close to the Oman Royal Family and the Sultan had sent him the car as a gift to use while in the UK! Said was kind enough to let us borrow it occasionally and we took great pleasure in cruising along Deal seafront with the windows down and Ride of The Valkyries blaring from the cassette player. It would have been a V or W suffix and may still be in Kent as Said sold it to our Chief Instructor prior to returning to Oman. Barrie Mills, Cornwall
