… and an automatic MG
MG Owners’ Club member Ian Booth rather fancied an RV8, but his wife Irene likes to drive autos. Unfortunately, all RV8S apart from one were built with a manual gearbox, so some ingenuity was called for. Ian explains: ‘The work was done by Riverside Engineering in Whaley Bridge. Their task was to fit a Rover SD1 Borg Warner Type 65 transmission, with a Triumph Stag gear selector, plus an oil cooler. It’s a fantastic upgrade to an already beautiful car; if MG had offered the RV8 in automatic form perhaps more of them would have been sold.’
