Insurance for younger drivers

-

I would love to see a study of classic car insurance for younger drivers. Until my son reached the age of 25 it was impossible to get him named on my insurance policy to drive any of my classics. There is a huge market out there for a classic car insurer to allow younger drivers under strict conditions. Yes, by all means limit the terms of use, limit the mileage, clean driving licence and require proof of ownership/insurance of another daily driver, but don’t impose a blanket exclusion of all under 25s for no good reason.

In February 1983 – as a younger driver – I took delivery of my new

RS1600I (HMJ 678Y). In April 1983 we visited the Lake District where my girlfriend (now wife) took the attached photograph of me with my pride and joy at Wast Water.

I sold the RS in 1985, to be replaced by a Sierra 4x4. In 2010, I purchased an RS1600I in the same specification as my original RS and it has been cherished ever since. In 2018 (35 years after our visit in HMJ 678Y) we visited Wast Water again, found the exact same spot and we recreated the same photograph. If anybody knows anything about that car, let me know at alan@alanperkins.co.uk.
