NOT SO SMART AT ALL!

-

I am a PC subscriber and received the March edition on the same day that the Sheffield Coroner ruled that the simultaneous, and instant, deaths of two men on the M1 near Sheffield during 2018 could have been prevented had the live lane been a hard shoulder as it had been previously. Danny’s own recent experience on the A14 was clearly and understandably a cause for concern. We live near Holmfirth, but our daughters live in Birmingham and Aylesbury respectively. I will only use the M1 to take me to the A38 to Birmingham, or M18 (not Smart) to take us to the A1/A421 to Aylesbury. I’m a guy who still drives on the continent and used to clock up a total of 30,000 miles per year. Anyone in a new car could have a tyre puncture and end up in the situation in which Danny unfortunately found himself. These so-called ‘Smart Motorways’ are unacceptable and, while they are still in existence, lives are being put at risk.

Bill Dick, Holmfirth
