X5… I own a classic!

-

I’m a long-time PC subscriber, although I don’t really consider myself the owner of a ‘practical classic’. However, it seems

I may have to reappraise that, in light of James Walshe’s Bangernomics article in the March issue! We have an E53 X5, too – bought back in December 2019, to fill a gap created after handing back a company Focus.

I have to say, it’s been a revelation. I’d driven a couple previously and was always impressed,

but I wasn’t prepared for how useful and fun it is. Nothing seems to faze it, it’s been wading through floods (alright, that did cost me an o2 sensor), the teenagers stretch out in the back on the motorway hauls, it’ll drag trailers, carry roof boxes and it’s also done some young driver training with the Under 17 Car Club – high speed laps of Castle Combe showed that it actually handles really quite well, albeit that the leather seats don’t grip as well as the tyres…
