‘I’m told it wasn’t used for the new Bond movie’

1978 Aston Martin V8 Vantage Stuart Mills, Mills Extreme Vehicles, Mansfield

-

I normally exhibit at NEC classic with my MEV kit cars, but not in 2020! Production of the Exocet has now moved south and left me time in lockdown to tinker with classics, including this battered Aston Martin V8 that I, rather stupidly, purchased from a dealer. It has been used by a US film company for filming a big budget blockbuster. Nobody will tell me which one though! It's an interesting car: converted to LHD, scaffold clamps welded all over the chassis, door hinges cut through for quick access and bullet holes in the seats, which were black, but have been sprayed cream. Seats are bolted down and fitted with fivepoint harnesses. I have managed to collect all the missing pieces for the restoration – the film people took out the engine and lost some brackets. Stratton Motor Co supplied three V8s to the film company, but is keeping professionally tight-lipped about it.
