‘I fall in love with it again everytime that I drive it’
1987 Mitsubishi Jeep P-J53 Graeme Follett, Basingstoke, Hampshire
I've had this car for 12 years and it's the last of a long line of classics I've owned. During my ownership I have modified it by fitting a Warn overdrive that results in far more relaxed cruising (and 18 gears to choose from!). Of all the classic cars I have owned this one is far superior to all them all in that it has never put a foot wrong. It has never failed to start or broken down and has been pretty much everywhere a car can drive, from pulling logs out of the forest for my log burner, summer trips to the beach and keeping us mobile when the snow arrives; with the winter hood fitted of course. I maintain it myself, Mitsubishi shine above other manufacturers whose classics I've owned in that every part is available from my contact in Japan and I mean everything, if I could afford it I can order the parts to build another from scratch. The Jeep has got 24V electrics, a 2.7-litre turbo diesel engine and has masses of torque, which makes it quite lively, only up to 60mph though. It is shorter than a Fiesta, but taller than a Range Rover and feels huge to drive. However, on a summer day it's simply the best method of travel that there is.
