Electric Classic Cars

Electric Classic Cars is based in Newtown in Wales and has converted an impressive variety of classics to electric power. The company’s Richard Morgan stresses that the basic car stays largely untouched, but as well as the electric power, the conversion can include power steering, heating and anything else needed to make the car properly usable. ‘We use our own custom software,’ he explains, ‘so it’s tailored to the car’s and the owner’s needs. For example, we make sure regenerative braking, which works only on the driving wheels, is set up in a way that doesn’t destabilise the car.’ Richard can also supply parts and advice for do-it-yourself home conversions, if you are brave enough.

Peter Brazier has owned his Ferrari since 1994 and was thinking of selling it in favour of ‘something more appropriate to my age. Slightly drunk one night, I had an idea and called Richard. ‘I can make it better for you,’ he said. And he did.’
