WHAT WE SAY THE FOUR TO BUY

-

James likes the… FASTEST ONE

‘The X350 appeals because it is a British executive that’s not only charismatic but it has been beautifully bolted together. A well maintained XJR would do nicely, plus a ferry ticket so I can drive it to the Alps. With its old school styling and fine engineering, this car really is the best of both worlds.’

Matt G likes the… JAGUAR XF

‘X350 is the last of a great line – XF is the new breed. I once borrowed a 3.0 twin-turbo diesel V6 model from Jaguar UK… as a support vehicle for a 1961 E-type on a trip to the 2011 24 Heures of Le Mans to celebrate 50 years of the ’E. With 300bhp on tap, it was as violently potent as it was luxurious. One to watch out for in the next few years.’

Keith likes… ALL OF THEM

‘The X350 has the potential to be the bargain of our time. Yes, it has some issues, but it’s fundamentally rugged with a selection of bulletproof engines. They’re also silly-cheap right now, but beware – because there aren’t as many around as there were X300/X308S, parts prices are high and availability isn’t as good.’

Danny likes the… 3.5 LITRE V8

‘Carrying on the tradition of excellence typified by every XJ (I’ve owned them all), the world’s finest sporting saloon topped out with the X350. So cheap right now, and so good in any guise: opt for the V8 (because V8, plus you can still get 30mpg on a run with a 3.5) as my dad did, sit back in comfort and enjoy effortless power.’
