‘Craig had had a bad week…’

Previous ex-hopkins Espace written off, new ex-hopkins Espace supplied

- Danny Hopkins

I love an Espace, and so does my good friend and fellow Bangernomics botherer Craig Cheetham – especially the MKIII (owing to its spectacular cheapness, size and louvred wing mirrors). Craig had had a bad week. A victim of car crime on two separate occasions and then a victim of a BMW that took a corner too fast, his automotive narrative was spiralling out of control (a bit like the Beemer). The BMW took out the 2-litre petrol Espace I sold to Craig two years ago… a car that was the front-line family wagon. A supportive phone conversation revealed that Mrs Craig was not best pleased either – she loved the Espace, too.

I put the phone down, I looked at my driveway. On it was my newly purchased, recently serviced and freshly MOT’D (including four new Falken Enduro tyres) Espace diesel. It was looking particularly perky and ready for action. I called Craig back. The next day I was at his place selling him his new Espace MKIII – for a less than it owed me, but with the knowledge that I was doing a mate a good turn at the end of a bad week. So now Craig, once again, has the benefit of fabulous French hugeness with a slightly better spec than the previous example, a less thirsty engine and some ludicrous alloys. Bonus on all fronts.
