Classic Dynamo & Regulator Conversions
Discrete 21st century tech for your classic’s electrical system
Ten years ago, on Christmas eve 2011, CDRC was born. Not in a stable, but in a garage at home. Four years later and needing bigger premises, it moved to an industrial unit in Saxilby, Lincolnshire. The first product offered by the company, a discrete electronic voltage regulator concealed within the body of an original points-controlled unit, continues to be a best seller to this day, while dynamo rebuilds, rewinds, 6-12v conversion and proper three-to-two brush conversions complement these regulators to give customers efficient, reliable, fully controlled charging for their classic and vintage vehicles. Pete Jury, who runs CDRC, explains: ‘Our regulators allow maintenance-free, properly controlled charging for classic cars all hidden within an original casing, meaning that originality needn’t be compromised to ensure reliable and efficient charging. The units are so discrete that they are even fully approved by the notoriously originality-focused Vintage Sports Car Club!’ A strong believer in supporting British industry, Pete continues: ‘Where possible, all of the components we use are made in Britain, and many are made within Lincolnshire and surrounding counties. We aim to provide our customers with a top-quality product which should last a lifetime, and we can do this by ensuring that this ethos is adhered to by all of our local suppliers over a cup of tea and a biscuit.’ As well as ensuring your classic’s battery is always topped up, Pete and the team also offer a range of LED bulbs aimed squarely at the classic car market. With a brand new range of headlamp bulbs (Double Dipper Pro) a recent addition to the growing range of lighting solutions for 6v and 12v cars, and polarity options available for both positive and negative earth vehicles, the range is impressive. Says Pete: ‘We aim to help owners remove the pitfalls of classic and vintage motoring and enable them to enjoy their car without concern. ‘I’ve got our LED bulbs fitted to my own classics and the increase in visibility is astounding, as well as the new lights putting significantly less strain on the car’s electrical system.’ The COVID-19 pandemic has proved a busy period for CDRC both in terms of customer demand and product development. ‘We’ve kept ourselves busy,’ beams Pete. ‘As well as our new range of headlamp bulbs, we’ve developed a new regulator for continental classics as well as electronic cut-outs for three-brush dynamos, plus there are a few more plans on the drawing board which I can’t talk about yet.’ It seems, then, that CRDC is flourishing with quality, and future-proofing classics key to its success. So if your classic’s dynamo is on its last legs, or you’re fed up of having to tickle your regulator back into life after each winter lay-up, give Pete a call to discuss your requirements.
