Anglia Car Auctions
We browse the goodies in King’s Lynn
It’s like a free car show… that you can buy.’ That was editor Danny’s summary of Anglia Car Auctions’ most recent classic sale at its King’s Lynn HQ over June 11-12 when PC popped in for a quick nose around. After the pandemic forced ACA’S historic vehicle auctions to be online-only for two years, 2022 has seen a very welcome return to punters being able to attend in person again. And as anybody who has been to one of these fast-paced, but friendly events will know, the social aspect of being able to mix and chat with like-minded enthusiasts, while wondering if you might be embroiled in a fierce bidding war with them later over a 1983 Austin Metro Vanden Plas automatic, is all part of the fun.
It’s the eclectic mix of motors that gives ACA’S sales such a distinctive flavour. From Forties Rovers that have probably been off the road far longer than on it, through on-the-button mainstream family classics from the Fifties to the Nineties, to turbocharged Bentleys, Rolls-royces and Porsches, all automotive life often appears. This time, there was even a V8powered Skoda 136 Rapid, Reliant Scimitar pick-up and 1966 Toyota Corona RT40 so rare and fascinating that our James had to be physically dragged away.
With the hot summer weather undoubtedly playing its part, a few hundred people made the trip to Norfolk to browse and bid on the 239 cars plus motorbikes and assorted automobilia that made up June’s offerings. Ninety per cent of the cars sold and, yes, one of PC’S team did succumb; Richard Gunn of Memory Lane fame snapping up an economy-conscious Peugeot 205 1.1 Junior. A 1951 Cadillac Series 62 also sold for £6804, with all the proceeds going to a Ukrainian relief charity.
ACA’S next auction is on August 20-21. We can’t wait to see what turns up.
