The club for fast Reliants
It’s a special year for the RSSOC
This year is the 50th anniversary of the Reliant Sabre and Scimitar Owners Club (RSSOC). It was started in 1972 by a small band of enthusiasts who were meeting to share their interests in several of the Reliant models, with the first meeting taking place at Silverstone.
At that time the Reliant Sabre had been campaigned by the factory in the Monte Carlo Rally and other rallies in the Sixties. Much of the purpose of the first meeting was to do with competition by owners in sprints and hill climbs throughout the country. Club members continue to gather for local meetings throughout the country today.
However, because of its rallying history, the Sabre is the only Reliant car that can be raced in open competition against other cars (except in sprints and hill climbs). As such, competition is a very important part of the club’s activities. For this reason, it is recognised by the DVLA and Motor Sport UK as an official source of information, and is also approved to conduct sprints, hill climbs and race meetings.
Dates for the diary
With its motor sport history in mind, the club is celebrating this year at its Scimfest sprint meeting at Curborough (August 18-21), with the sprint meeting on the Sunday.
All are welcome to attend for a fantastic event with concours, auto test, traders and auto jumble over the weekend.
RSSOC will also be at the Classic Motor Show at the NEC in November, continuing to celebrate this milestone. So, please come along to see the club and the many local events its members attend.
