Sexing Montecristos

Practical Fishkeeping (UK) - - Species Showcase -

As with many Central American cichlids, sexing young Oscura heterospila is tricky. You may notice slight sexual dimorphism as the fish develop. Male fish tend to be a little darker than females and will start to develop a much more pointed dorsal fin. Females appear a little more rounded.

To ensure a good male to female ratio, buy a group of juveniles.
