CHANNA FACTS!

-

Channa can breathe out of water due to having a chamber called a suprabranchial (labyrinth) organ. This allows them to take oxygen from the air by gulping it in through its mouth. This also means they can survive in quite stagnant water.

In some parts of the world Channa species are an important food source.

Channa have been know to bite humans!

They can move quickly when they need to but spent most time sedentary or slowly roaming.

All Channa are carnivores, juveniles eat crustaceans and small fish, and as they grow they progress to small amphibians and larger fish.

Many Channa can move over land by wriggling from one body of water to another.
