Where do I house my Koi for pond repairs?

-

My Koi pond is about 10 years old. It is 1.8m deep including a 60cm high wall which is edged with decking board. My problem is that the decking board is now beginning to rot and needs replacing. I’d like to have the wall edge slabbed, but I need to rehome my fish while the work was being done. I don't really know anyone who could look after them. I have about 10 fish up to around 60cm in length. Any advice would be appreciated.

JEREMY SAYS: You can buy ‘pop up’ Koi ponds similar to those used at Koi shows. They look a bit like overgrown paddling pools and would hold your fish short term. But be sure to move the filtration and aeration across and monitor the water quality daily.

You may also be able to hire or buy a secondhand Koi quarantine vat. It would have to be a large one and be capable of using your existing mature filtration, but either of those methods would be the best solution for your fish, with the minimum of stress and disruption.
