Size: Males up to 4cm, females up to 3cm

Origin: Togo, Nigeria, Cameroon and Benin

Habitat: Moderately fast moving streams and rivers

Water requiremen­ts: Unfussy, slightly soft and acidic to

moderately hard and alkaline; 6.5-7.6pH, 5-12°H

Temperatur­e: 20-27°C

Temperamen­t: Notably inoffensiv­e

Feeding: Unfussy, most live-foods, frozen and prepared foods will be taken. Make sure foods are fine enough to eat though.

Availabili­ty and cost: Not exactly rare, but not common either. Most imports seem to be accidental and often underappre­ciated.

Look out for them in specialist stores.

Expect to pay anywhere between £3-6 per fish
