What is a coastal plain?

-

Coastal plains are regions of flat and low-lying land next to seas and oceans. They can expand over wide distances and are separated from the rest of the country by some prominent feature like a mountain range. Many coastal plains were originally sea beds, exposed when ocean levels dropped. Others can be formed by the gradual accumulation of sediments dropped by rivers.
