The not so blind cave fish...

-

There is also a sighted, normally coloured version of Astyanax

mexicanus, which inhabits lakes and rivers of Mexico and northern Central America. It is thought that the two separate forms may have developed relatively recently in evolutionary terms, possibly within the last 10,000 years. As well as having no eyes, the blind variant also has a smaller brain to help it conserve even more energy.
