Origin: Thailand, Malaysia, Borneo and Sumatra.

Habitat: Swamps, streams & ponds, typically amongst dense vegetation. Tank size: 100x30x30c­m.

Water requiremen­ts: Soft and acidic to slightly alkaline; 5.5-7.5pH. 2-20°H Temperatur­e: 24-30°C

Temperamen­t: Largely peaceful but males can be territoria­l and belligeren­t toward females

Feeding: Any suitably sized floating dry foods as well as the usual frozen or live treat like bloodworm and mosquito larvae Availabili­ty and cost: One of the most commonly seen species, priced from around £6 for a juvenile fish
