Origin: Widespread across Orinoco and amazon drainages

Habitat: Extremely dark and acidic streams

Tank size: 80x30x30cm

Water requiremen­ts: Very soft and extremely acidic, tannin-stained water; 3.8-6.4pH, 0-4°H

Temperatur­e: 20-28°C

Temperamen­t: Peaceful but incredibly nervous, and not suited to community tanks

Feeding: Offer lots of live and frozen meaty foods such as Daphnia

Availabili­ty and cost: Uncommon and usually in specialist blackwater systems, pricing around £10 each
