The real danger of being clear
While it’s far from a new trend, some fish farmers have taken to injecting their transparent fish with bright dyes to make them a novelty and sell them to unwary aquarists. The risks of being injected are high, with disease like Lymphocystis being a common problem. Such fish are usually marketed under spurious names like ‘Disco Fish’. While the injection procedure is illegal in the UK, there are no rules in place to stop import of fish that have been treated this way elsewhere.
