Alligator Gar, Atractosteus spatula, is banned from import for the aquarium trade in the UK, but remains an iconic fish — it has been reported to grow to 3m, and weigh over 135kg. Wrongly considered a threat to game fish by some anglers in their native USA, over the years they have been the victims of extermination campaigns, from bounties on their heads to misinformed fishermen and bowfishers.
