Habitat: Fast flowing waters over rocks and boulders

Water requirements: Soft and acidic to slightly alkaline water;

.0-7.5pH, 2-16°H

Temperature: 27-30°C, will not fare well in anything cooler

Temperament: Not good in a community with boisterous bottom dwellers, best suited to species only tanks or biotope set-ups

Feeding: Takes sinking tablets, but supplement with frozen meaty foods like bloodworm

Availability and cost: Farmed fish available from quite a few specialist retailers, but expect to pay £120 or more each
