Working from home can be even more flexible if you are working from a motorhome, and interest in this opportunity is increasing

Dolphin makes a grand entrance

It might not sound that significant, but recent circumstances have offered dealerships a bit of a breathing space – the ideal opportunity to spruce up their premises.

At Dolphin Motorhomes’ Hampshire branch in Southampton, for example, the whole of the customer reception area has now been given a complete refurb, including new glazing, flooring and ceiling, as well as automatic double doors, external cladding and signage.

Also new is an undercover handover bay, where customers can come and collect their motorhome purchases and be given a thorough demonstration of how it all works – whatever the weather.

The service department has now had a similar overhaul, with its own designated entrance and parts storage area.

As marketing manager Nicky Hopper explains: “Not only can we give a better welcome to our customers, it also makes an even safer environment. Our regular customers have noticed the changes and appreciate our efforts. Just remember, we are seeing customers by appointment only for sales as well as servicing, in our seven-step protocol.” Find out more at dolphinmotorhomes.co.uk.

An office on wheels

Lounge, bedroom, kitchen, washroom… office? In recent months, we’ve seen first the necessity, then the preference, for more and more people to work from home – at least part-time, if not completely full-time. Now, many people seem to be turning their attention towards the great potential for flexible (and socially distanced) working offered by leisure vehicles.

It’s understandable: if you have to travel long distances for work, how much more reassuring it would be to have your own bedroom on wheels, rather than having to use hotels and the like?

Information on this trend has been gathered by AutoTrader, the largest online site for pre-owned motorhomes (autotrader.co.uk/motorhomes/ used-motorhomes), who surveyed 2000 adults.

AutoTrader reports: “… a huge spike in interest for caravans and motorhomes across our app and website. Whilst a large portion of this is down to people needing a staycation this year, there’s a really interesting trend emerging of using caravans for contact-free ways of working, or even self-isolating to keep key workers safe.

“Businesses need to adapt to a greater need for safety when sending employees to travel and stay overnight for work. Using caravans and motorhomes can facilitate this, as well as providing a quiet space to help optimise working. It may well be in a business’s best interest to start looking into caravans and motorhomes!”

Further proof, if needed, that ’vans really are the most flexible of vehicles. Here’s a tip, though. Do consider your seating position, especially if you’re going to be hunched over a laptop. You’ll want a decent table, too. But at least you’ll have easy access to the kettle and the fridge!
