TOUR ESSENTIALS
way to go
Stirling is accessed off the M9, J9 (south) and J10 (north). On-street parking is limited, but there are two Park & Rides with no height barriers; no fares are charged on the bus. Campervans and motorhomes are not allowed in the car park for Stirling Castle.
There is a small car park at The Pineapple, but this is only accessible by campervans; there’s no space to manoeuvre coachbuilts and overhanging trees on the access road prevent anything much over two metres from reaching the car park safely.
There is lots of easy parking at the Falkirk Wheel and dedicated (chargeable) motorhome parking at Helix Country Park. Follow the brown tourist signs.
At John Muir Country Park, height barriers appear to prevent any vehicle over 2.1m from parking. But there’s an area for taller vehicles, with an all-day £2 parking charge; simply follow the road around.
All the roads we ventured along are acceptable for coachbuilts, but note that the car park in St Abbs is approached by a steep, single-track road with a sharp bend (with clear view) at the bottom. Approach with caution and proceed when you can see it is clear. Parking is pay and display.
Recommended OS map for walking Berwickshire Smugglers’ Trail: OL346 (Berwick-upon-Tweed).
