DRONES ARE MAKING huge inroads into photography, and it’s more than just landscape specialists putting them to use. Fashion and portrait shooter David Shelley (facebook.com/ davidjohnsphotography services) found a whole new perspective thanks to his drone.

“I was on a photo shoot with a couple of models that I know and had just purchased my DJI Mavic. I was really keen to test out how it would work with portraiture. I had the idea to try and get a shot of the model laying in the waves on the beach. The conditions were quite challenging as the drone has a fixed aperture and I found the images were not quite as sharp as I liked, but putting an ND filter on the drone helped to get them a lot sharper. I put the drone in burst mode, trying to time the shot just right with an acceptable breaking wave to give her the illusion of having wings like a washed-up angel.”

Above David’s impressive shot was taken on a DJI Mavic Air drone.
