Embrace the darkness

BIG CITIES BY NIGHT MAKE A WONDERFUL BACKDROP for photography, and Rich Walker (instagram.com/ richwphotos) used a bit of research and perseverance to get this stunning image of a famous London landmark with his highly original night shot of Battersea Power Station.

“I’d seen a few versions of this shot on Facebook and Instagram, so while I was in London for the Open House weekend in September, I decided to pay a visit.

“Having sussed out the location on Google Maps, I set up my camera, got my composition sorted and spent about 45 minutes shooting light trails from the trains. It wasn’t a really challenging shoot, the main issues were trying to prevent the highlights blowing out, and having to wait until the passing trains were on the right tracks. The tracks closest and furthest away didn’t really give good trails, so I had to wait until a couple of trains had passed on the middle section of the track to get the desired result.”
