1 Use Curves to alter brightness

Open your image into Photoshop or Elements. Head over to the Layers panel and then click on the Create new fill or adjustment layer icon, choosing Curves from the list that appears. Pull up on the Curves graph to lift the midtones and brighten the shot. Now hit Ctrl+I to invert the Layer Mask to turn it black and mask it off completely, and use a soft, white Brush Tool to paint over the light source to unmask it, revealing the brightening effect of the Curves Adjustment Layer.

2 Colour the light source

To give your light a warm glow, go to the Layers panel and click on the Create new fill or adjustment layer icon and choose Photo Filter. Use the Warming Filter (85) option and drag the Density slider to 75%. Now hold Alt and drag the Layer Mask from your Curves Layer onto your Photo Filter Layer to duplicate it.
