I have a Ducati 996 which is factory-fitted with five-spoke Marchesini wheels. I’d like to have the wheels refinished due to the ravages of time, but I’ve approached a number of powdercoaters, painters and metal finishers and all are hesitant to carry out any work due to being unsure about the material, how it would react to removing the existing finish, preparation and the process of finishing.

I’ve heard some scary stories in researching this on the web and Duke forums about the material breaking down and oxidising, which can weaken the wheel strength, as well as listening to experts in the industry about their concerns.
