Bikes of my life
‘Soogo’ Sewell’s dogs and jewels
AFTER 41 years of riding and more than 60 bikes, Stephen ‘Soogo’ Sewell has a few tales to tell.the 57-year-old from Liverpool also found time to have seven kids with partner Anne-marie too.
Their four boys and three girls range in age from 18 to 36 and all have inherited Soogo’s petrolhead genes.there was no such parental influence on the young Soogo, whose introduction to riding came on a Raleigh Runabout field bike when he was 15.
A year later he was on the road with a Puch Maxi.that ended when the throttle cable broke. The solution was to replace it with a brand-new Honda SS50. In the intervening 40 years from 1976 to today Soogo’s owned everything from a Cub 90 to a ’Blade. Soogo is not is sentimental.the Suzuki GS1000 he doted on for 19 years, spending many hours and hundreds of pounds customising was offed when a 600 Bandit made it feel slow.
Soogo has no plush garage within which to fettle his bikes.the alley up the side of his house is his workshop.
His main sportsbike rides at the moment are his ‘Blade, a Suzuki GSX-R600 and a customised Honda CBR600 for every day.
“I’ve found a keeper in the ’Blade,” he says.“even if I do find ayamaha R1 that I can’t afford.”
All of which goes to prove that happy as we might be with what we have, it’s never over.
