Surely a ’90s ZXR should be green, blue and white? Not if, like Rob’s resto, your inspiration is the 1993 Suzuka 8-Hour winning ZX-7 of Scott Russell and Aaron Slight. The blue, red and white colours were those of sponsor Itoham, a Japanese tinned ham company, and the machine they were applied to was a full-factory TT-F1 spec racer – the last of the prototype four-strokes before superbike rules took over.

Russell, who went on to take the WSB title that year too, and Slight – fellow Muzzy rider at the time – took the Suzuka victory 2m 25s ahead of Honda’s Eddie Lawson and Satoshi Tsujimoto, with Takuma Aoki and Mike Smith, also on an RVF750, taking third.
