Hooning about with the AR Owners’ Club in leafy Lancashire

There’s nothing like revisiting old haunts on the bike you used to ride, especially with old mates with exactly the same machinery

IF YOU WERE held up by a group of almost 20 small capacity two-strokes on the Lancashire lanes to Southport in late June, there will be no apology – Kawasaki AR experts Holmetech put on its inaugural run out to the coast and everyone involved had a blast. The event, primarily for tiddler strokers of the Kawasaki persuasion, saw a plethora of AR50, 80 and 125s take part, as well as everything from Yamaha TZR125 and RD-LCS to a TDR250 and NSR250 too.

“The Lancashire weather put a few riders off,” Holmetech gaffer Phil Holme told PS. “So we would have had a few more runners, but the weather got better throughout the day and everyone who took part has asked when we’re going to do it again.”

Many of the bikes on the run have been through Phil’s hands; some for restoration, others for light fettling, so their owners’ can relive those halcyon teenage days again. The ride out from Chorley to Southport on the Lancs coast was, in every sense, a proper trip down memory lane. Here’s why…

“I used to take my now wife on the back. I look at them now and wonder how on earth we managed that”
