Ducati Monster 1000 DS
At the same time as Ducati were getting all liquidcooled with the S4 and S4R, they hadn’t forgotten the Monster’s air-cooled origins. In 2003 they launched the 1000 DS, using an enlarged two-valve 900SS motor taken out to 992cc and with an extra pair of spark plugs for better combustion. The result was a faithful update to the old M900 in that the M1000 DS still looked the part... and was still a tad under-powered with only 85bhp on tap. Lovely looker though, and perfect for relaxed doffing along the back lanes.
