“Brilliant bikes. Happy doing 90 on a motorway for hours on end. A bit too bouncy sometimes, but that just adds to the fun. Twisties are a joy, the immense weight disappears. Did 2000 miles in one week last year and had no issues whatsoever, which is surprising for a 20-year-old bike with 50k under its wheels.”

“I had a 2001 XJR1300SP for a couple of years from 2005. A ‘real’ motorbike, it kind of reminded me of riding a big V8 engined automatic car – it moved on a tidal wave of torque. The XJR was a real muscle bike, and the creamy torque of the big air-cooled lump made the big Yam easy to ride.

“I rode a Suzuki GSX1400 a couple of years later. However for some reason the fire did not burn in quite the way I thought it might and I sold the thing after only 18 months. Now I find myself missing that smooth effortless performance. I much preferred the big Yam personally.”

“What a bike. Loved it – especially the way it wheelied on the throttle. My Honda CB1300 is definitely nowhere near as quick.”
