Toxic Tokicos

Practical Sportsbikes (UK) - - On the Bench -

Q: I pulled the six-piston Tokico calipers on my ZRX and instantly regretted it. Seven out of 12 pistons are scrap, all the seals are shot (at least, the ones present are shot…), a rebuild kit including pistons is somewhere north of 200 quid. This does not sit well with my tight-fistedness at all, so what’s the best four-pot alternative that can be used? I’ve heard talk of the Nissins used on big Suzukis but these are hard to come by at a reasonable price these days.

A: Gary Hurd says: The fourpot Nissins might not be as cheap as they use to be but they’re still cheaper than a rebuild. Get yourself some Nissins from a Mk1 1200 Bandit. The banjo thread is a different pitch so look out for that, and ensure that the banjos are at a decent angle flat to the caliper.
