Cruddy Akrapovic

Practical Sportsbikes (UK) - - On the Bench -

Q: I’ve just bought a Kawasaki ZX-9R C1 with an Akrapovic titanium exhaust and I need advice on cleaning it. The headers are quite bad from the block to half way under the engine. It looks like rust but as far as I know titanium doesn’t rust so it must be baked on road crud. What is the best thing to clean them with and the best method as I have no experience with titanium? I’ve heard about bleach but don’t know if it’s safe on titanium because in all the videos I’ve watched they’ve been cleaning stainless steel.

A: Alan Seeley says: Give them a good wipe down with cellulose thinners then Mr Muscle window cleaner, the one that says it has vinegar in it. Avoid abrasives.

Cellulose thinners and Mr Muscle do the job best
