WHAT TO LOOK FOR

Practical Sportsbikes (UK) - - Special Build of the Year 2018 -

Brakes on all GSX-400S, from the GK71 to the last GK76, seem to be poor, and they deteriorate exponentially with age until they’re bloody terrible. Strip and refurbish the calipers, replace hoses, try pattern discs with quality pads.

Cosmetics: GSX-RS, of all sizes, tend to be treated with less care; maybe it’s because their owners like them so much they ride them more. Either way, scruffy GSX-R400S abound. Bringing them back isn’t too challenging: a few parts are common to other Suzukis, and almost everything is still available if you look hard enough.

Top: brakes aren’t the best and age does them no favours. Above: fairing panels can still be had if you look in the right places
