1997 Suzuki GSX-R600 SRAD

What’s the story? My GSX-R is a bit of a mis­match of parts; 1997 frame, ’98 mo­tor with ’99 carbs. I’ve got an SRAD al­ready, so I fan­cied build­ing this one to cre­ate some­thing a bit dif­fer­ent. I’m go­ing with a satin black look with this one. In terms of parts I’m go­ing to keep it pretty much stan­dard apart from an un­der­tray and a few de­tails here and there.

Progress so far? I’ve al­ways hated the orig­i­nal sil­ver, and with what I have planned the satin black is gonna look awe­some. I’ve fi­nally found an OK ra­di­a­tor and spruced it up. Suzuki wanted £707 for a new one – I got this one for £30. A light mist of satin black and now with most fins straight­ened it looks good. I’ve also been clean­ing up the brake discs, re­spray­ing the car­ri­ers; it’s all start­ing to come to­gether and looks re­ally good.

What’s next? I’m work­ing through it me­thod­i­cally, clean­ing, fix­ing and paint­ing as I go. Now that the brakes and wheels are pretty much there, it won’t be long be­fore I can get the rolling chas­sis to­gether and the mo­tor back in the frame. The body­work is still to fin­ish. I’ve rubbed it all back, and done the prep work, so next up it’ll be paint proper and lac­quer.
