Honda VF1000F/TL1000 hybrid
Owner: Richard Pragnell, Rochester, Kent Owned for: five years
What’s the story? My project started about five years ago when I bought a TL-R engine and loom from a friend with the intention of fitting it into a VF500F frame I had at the back of the shed, but it just would not fit so I decided to build a TL-R streetfighter instead. Then I moved house three times, the project dragged on and got uglier so I put it on ebay. When it didn’t sell I decided to break it. Progress so far? Still wanting a V-twin in my life I looked on ebay and found the VF1000F frame for £150. I’ve always liked VF1000 looks so I’m searching for body parts – I picked up a tank only four miles from me, as well as some Suzuki Bandit 1200 Mk2 forks and front wheel.
What’s next? I need to find an engineer to swap the steering tube. I have a swingarm on the way. I’ve loosely fitted the engine after removing the Honda engine mounts; I will be using the TL footpegs, a TL-S radiator, wiring loom and switchgear.
I’ll fabricate engine mounts from steel as I’m a welder by trade. I have read about a conversion fitting a CBR600 rear wheel and brakes too so that’s a possibility for the project as well.
Excellent hanging bucket with petunias, nice trolley jack too PROJECT IN PROGRESS
This could be really quite good when it’s done
Richard will knock up some steel mounts and the transplant will be good to go
