2003 Kawasaki ZX-7R
Owner: Kenneth O’kelley, Texas, USA Owned for: two years So far: did the whole thing with my two sons What’s next? replica plastics for the track
Ifound this bike in Texas with a bad engine. It had thrown a rod and I paid $300 for it. Among the parts I discovered a solo seat. It was an original ZX-7RR tail piece. Once I’d stripped away the silver paint it came up like new. I sold it, but later found another one. I also discovered a full titanium Hindle system. Result. Running gear is 2007 ZX-10R (which saved about 70lbs), although the shock is 7R – fitting the 10R part would have required hacking up the battery tray. My wife and two sons were instrumental during the build.

Below: chassis coming together with ZX-10R additions. Finished article is a peach of a bike
Above: Bare essentials stripped to the bone. Even pre-paint it looks right and sits well
