Katana ac­tion at Phillip Is­land, and we do mean ac­tion. Steve Martin is the rider

Not all Katanas are equal. Es­pe­cially the TBR Rac­ing Kats cam­paigned in re­cent years at the an­nual Phillip Is­land Clas­sic meet­ing in Aus­tralia. These Suzukis have the lot: rigid hand­made frames, 180bhp-plus 1294cc mo­tors and, in the hands of for­mer WSB stal­wart Steve Martin, win­ning pedi­gree.

De­spite strug­gling to keep the front wheel on the ground, Martin (pic­tured) showed a field of ex-gp and su­per­bike aces his back wheel in 2011 – what you’re wit­ness­ing here is a fourth, yes fourth, gear power wheelie. Try that on a stan­dard Katana. One of Steve’s be­spoke GSX chas­sis made it to the UK in early 2016 and has since formed the ba­sis for an equally stun­ning race bike. And we’ve rid­den it.
