It’s bye bye ’Busa (sob)
Production of the last true unlimited hyperbike, Suzuki’s GSX1300R Hayabusa has ended after a 20 year run. Ever tighter Euro emissions limits (Euro4) have called time on the ’Busa, making it illegal to sell any vehicles that don’t comply after 31 December 2018.
The Hayabusa, so called after a Japanese Peregrine Falcon that can reach 200mph in dive mode, was one of the last bikes to make it to market before the Japanese manufacturers bowed to mounting public and political pressure and agreed on a 300kph (186mph) limit for all future machines. The 175bhp ’Busa was said to be capable of breaking the double ton in favourable conditions, although in reality low to mid 190s was the norm. Even so...
