Practical Sportsbikes (UK) - - Project Hunter -

Early 900 Zeds are daft money now, yet the later 1000s offer nearly all the aesthetic appeal (only 4-2 rather 4-4 pipes diluting the visual treat) and the benefits of many years’ development. This is an import from Minnesota, and it exbibits all the sunbleached and wind-burnt patina rather than the wet, rotten cancer that tends to afflict Uk-model project bikes. It’s going to need a complete strip anyway, but it’s complete, largely original, and get this: a runner that had an MOT last year when the owner intended to follow it up with a cosmetic restoration that

never happened.

For a good home restorer, that looks like it could be a straightforward project. You often find with American imports from drier states that they look worse than they are – the fact it’s running suggest it’s just cosmetic. I’ve known bikes like that to come apart like they were assembled yesterday. Apart from the silencers, all the important bits look like they’re there and workable. Good buy we think.

Nice and faded rather than rotten and flaky
