“I bought this RD250LC unregistered from KGF Classic Cars in Peterborough. Padgetts had put it through PDI when new, stored it, then sold it into a private collection in 2001.
“I set about recommissioning her using NOS parts, mostly from Fowlers. I rebuilt the front brake caliper and mastercylinder with new seals and pistons. Bridgestone BT45 tyres replaced the OE Yokohomas.
“New fork oil was next; the seals were fine. Switchgear was cleaned and the cooling system flushed. The petrol tap got new seals and filter. A perished air filter was replaced. And I replaced the head gasket and stripped the carbs, replacing the floats, gaskets and float needles. Most rubber items are new. The adhesive on a rear brake shoe had failed with age which is something to watch out for.
“Initial rough running pointed to crank seals, however it turned out to be a rich mixture, sorted on the dyno at Mutts Nutts 2 Strokes, York. Things are only original once so I’ve done no more than needed to put the LC where it belongs – on the road.”
